Precautions to take when towing with a Ford Fusion

The load capacity of your vehicle is indicated by weight, not by volume. You can not necessarily use all the space available when you charge your vehicle or trailer. Towing a trailer imposes constraints added to the engine, gearbox, axle, brakes, tires and vehicle suspension. Inspect these components before, during and after towing.

To help minimize the effects of movement of the trailer on your vehicle while driving:

  • Load the heaviest as close as possible to the trailer floor.
  • Load the heaviest so that they are centered between the tires left and right trailer.
  • Load the heaviest above the axles of the trailer or slightly advance towards the arrow of the trailer. Do not let the final drawbar weight of the trailer pass over 15% or less than 10% of the weight of the loaded trailer.

To tow a trailer safely, follow these tips:

  • Do not tow a trailer until your vehicle has not travelled 1,600 km (1000 mi).
  •  Learn about the regulations of the road safety code in force in your region regarding towing a trailer.
  • Read the instructions for installation and adjustment supplied with the towing accessories.
  • Perform operations more often maintenance of your vehicle if you tow a trailer. Consult your periodic maintenance schedule to get more information.
  • If you are using a rented trailer, follow the guidelines provided by the rental agency.

With Ford Fusions on the road

The Fusion is one of the most beautiful cars Ford has ever made, with a look that is the ideal combination of elegant and sporty, with a front end that reminds of a shark and makes it look slim but aggressive at the same time with a lot of class.

There are chrome elements that make it look quite fashionable, as well as the design of the headlights and the LED eyebrow that gives it a touch of modernity, to keep it current in 2019. The lower part of the fascia also has chrome accents and LED headlights to complement the design.

The sculpted character lines on the hood look great and feel natural, showing that Ford thought of them from the outset to enhance the shape of this Fusion.

When we see it from the sides we find a very good design, with soft curves to go from the hood to the roof, passing through the windshield, reversing the curvature in the roof and making it descend towards the trunk, also smoothly.

Technology-wise, it features smart keyless access with a push-button engine start. There is a remote trunk release and universal garage control. The engine has a remote start system.

The rearview mirror is electrochromic, and the side mirrors have turn signals, heating, memory and automatic dimming on the driver’s side, as well as a useful courtesy light.

This version is equipped as standard with headlights with automatic ignition and automatic activation of high beams, ambient lighting and also on the driver and passenger visors. There is a global opening system, to operate the remote raising and lowering of the windows, electric sunroof and rain sensor windshield wipers.

The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and has audio controls for the 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which also integrates a navigation system that is activated by voice commands and Sony high-end audio fidelity with 12 speakers, with radio AM, FM, MP3 player and even compact discs.

As for active and passive safety, it has active parking assistance, a pre-collision system with the autonomous emergency brake, a hill start aid, reversing camera with sensors, adaptive cruise control, advanced traction control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, tire pressure monitoring and lane-keeping system.

As for more traditional systems, we find 8 airbags, electronic brake assistance, electronic brake distribution, disc brakes with a four-wheel ABS anti-lock system and anchors for baby seats.

Ford Fusion towing experience

The handling of the Ford Fusion is quite good, the 2.0-litre displacement 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine responds quite well as shown by its 270 pound-feet of torque and 240 horsepower output. It may not have the best sound, but it certainly is a powerhouse that achieves what you expect of it.

The steering is electro-assisted and in general, it has a good response both at low speeds and at high speeds, it is precise and although it does not completely transmit the imperfections of the road, thanks to that it feels comfortable at all times.

The driver assistance systems work well and, in particular, the parking is particularly useful in a car of the dimensions of this Ford Fusion.

Conclusions

The Ford Fusion is an excellent car; And in the American market, which is characterized by a deep love for sedans, this car continues to be a very attractive offering from the North American brand.
