How much can a 2005 Toyota Camry tow?

In this blog post, we will answer the following question: How much can a 2005 Toyota Camry tow?

How much can a 2005 Toyota Camry tow?

A 2005 Toyota Camry can tow either 2645 lbs or 3527 lbs, depending on the vehicle specifications and version.  Since its introduction in 1984, the Camry has been at the top of the midsize sedan lineup. It attracts a loyal clientele looking for reliable, comfortable and hassle-free transportation. Over the years, it has obviously become gentrified, so much so that today, some versions are true luxury cars.

For 2005, the Camry line had five versions, which served a wide variety of buyers. The LE and LE V6 versions take on the role of entry-level models, the SE and SE V6 advocate sporty looks, while the XLE V6 takes luxury to the next level. For its fourth year in this form, the Camry receives a few modifications that will allow it to continue its career until its complete overhaul, scheduled for 2007.

What is the 2005 Toyota Camry like?

Despite its few touch-ups to the grille, headlights and taillights, the Camry does not evoke passion. Its general line is sober and discreet, but cannot be qualified as successful. All tastes are in nature, but as far as I’m concerned this car is deadly boring, at least aesthetically.

It’s not ugly per se, but a little more character wouldn’t hurt her. You only have to take a look at the Nissan Altima or the Mazda6 to understand what I’m talking about. After all, creating a nice car doesn’t cost more.

Discreet though they are, the modifications give this car a more inviting look. In addition to its redesigned headlights and taillights, it was grafted with beautiful 17-inch rims, charcoal grey, directly from its little sister, the Camry Solara

2005 Toyota Camry Towing and Performance

Toyota Camry shares the new TNGA platform with Lexus ES 300h and is sold only with a hybrid system consisting of a 2.5-litre gasoline engine and an electric unit. We have 218 hp and automatic CVT transmission, which highlights the power resources very well.

Whether you’re driving around the city or on the highway, depressing the accelerator pedal leads to an instant response from the car. Especially at overtaking on national roads where I appreciated this hybrid-CVT combination to the maximum. In terms of sound insulation, Camry is very good: only when running at high speed the engine noise is perceived inside, but not annoying.

The list of standard features is very long and this is one of the most pleasant surprises. Right from the basic version, which is sold in Romania with prices starting at 30,669 euros, you have LED headlights for low beam, driver’s seat with electric adjustment, Adaptive Cruise Control, automatic high beam change and a generous package of assistance systems.

The Dynamic equipment we tested also has BI-LED headlights, wireless phone charger, infotainment system with 8-inch screen and navigation, parallel parking assist system, electrically adjustable height/depth multifunction steering wheel and 18-inch alloy wheels inchi. And we can say, for sure, that we don’t really find direct competitors that offer all this at 34,899 dollars.

The 2005 Toyota Camry, an overrated reputation?

The Camry is the most popular mid-size sedan.  It must be said that Toyota has succeeded with the Camry in building customer loyalty so that the latter will follow it throughout its life. Launched in the early 1980s, it joined the baby boomers who, at the time, had family needs and generally active lives.

Then, little by little, the Camry gained traction, saw its power and level of luxury increase, while seeing its lineup expand. What we’re serving today is an immensely more spacious, comfortable and quieter car that continues to meet the needs of this same clientele, many of whom are now of grandparent age.

Reliability guaranteed? Of course, the Camry didn’t earn the reputation for excellence and reliability that comes with it in a snap. It had to prove its quality to those who previously bought products like the Ford Taurus or the Chevrolet Celebrity, which it did.

However, it seems that in recent years this quality has not been as strong as it once was. At least that is what we can conclude from the comments of a few buyers, who admit to having had some sometimes major problems with their car.

On the equipment side, Toyota is more generous than in the past. The equipment/price ratio certainly isn’t the best in town, but it does offer an interesting list of standard features at the very least. Unfortunately, a few elements that are now almost vital remain optional, such as the hands-free phone system, which is standard on a simple Kia Rio.

When it comes to comfort and a quiet ride, you’ve come to the right place, because that is the Camry’s strength. The latter won’t give you the dynamism of an Accord let alone the pleasure of driving a Mazda6, but for cosy comfort, it’s a winning formula.

2005 Toyota Camry Pros

  • Excellent powertrains
  • Consumption below average
  • Quiet and comfortable car
  • Large choice of models
  • Low depreciation

2005 Toyota Camry Cons

  • A bill that climbs quickly
  • Reputation for overrated reliability
  • More greedy in winter
  • Small trunk.

The bottom line

We need to remind you of the safety rules, and that exceeding towing capacity is never recommended, as it can represent a great risk especially on a long road.  The weight makes your car less agile and less balanced, especially if you carry a lot of weight in the trunk, in the rear, if you have a roof rack, a trailer or any other accessory to carry more cargo.
