What is a Kia Sedona like?

Seeing the KIA Sedona head-on inevitably makes me think of a generation Forte that has just retired, although it is known that the brands share a design language, in my opinion, Sedona has a front that is equal to that of that Forte, but bigger. And this is definitely not a complaint.

The vehicle looks sober from all angles. It should be noted that the Sedona that comes to us is in the middle of its life cycle, the 2019 model; That we can buy from Monday, September 10, corresponds to the half-life update of the model, so according to those responsible for the brand, Sedona will look like this for another two or three years, then we will have a new generation.

We can enjoy LED or halogen headlights, LED fog lights and 17 or 18 ”wheels according to the version. In addition to a double sunroof.

Entering Sedona has a familiar air, some forms and components are derived from the vehicles with which it shares a platform, in this case, the KIA Optima and KIA Sorento. Visually it is attractive and has certain luxury features, as we can find some wooden and other metal mouldings.

The perception of the quality inside is decent, not that you really feel in a premium vehicle, but you will not feel that the price is not justified. At the front it is very easy to find a comfortable driving position, as the seats have electric controls and memory for the driver’s seat, the steering wheel can be manually adjusted in height and depth.

In front of the driver, we will find an analogue instrument panel with a colour trip computer, which will show us data such as consumption, range, distance, speed and several more.

KIA Sedona is already compatible with KIA Link, a service that will be included in the vehicle and that allows you to connect your smartphone to the car to know real-time data on speed, consumption, battery level, oil, maintenance alerts and even location in real-time of the vehicle that also works in case of theft.

Kia Sedona: engine and performance when towing

Kia Sedona is offered only with a 3.3-litre V6 engine with 276 hp and 248 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to a six-speed transmission that sends power to the front axle.

Engine response tends to be good most of the time, gaining speed not very fast, but without stopping at certain points. Especially with air conditioning on and not too steep slopes, we did notice a lack of punch when accelerating, although it is clear that these vehicles are not intended to deliver sharp driving sensations.

The consumption we obtained after more than 200 km of road was 6.5 km / l.

It is striking that although it shares an engine with KIA Sorento, it does not share the same transmission as the current Sorento V6, said to be eight gears.

If it were incorporated we would have a better response from the set without having to stretch both gears and increase consumption.

Kia Sedona: safety features when towing

Safety in Kia Sedona is ensured by: 6 airbags, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, blind-spot detector, reverse camera with rear collision alert.

The steering helps a lot when manoeuvring in the city, as it is smooth, although on the road it tends to feel a bit anaesthetized. On the other hand, the suspension does a wonderful job of filtering out bumps and bumps from the road, there is no constant feeling of bouncing and in curves, the body roll is not as noticeable as in some SUVs.

It conveys a lot of confidence, although of course, by requiring it, the understeer tendency is notorious due to the weight it carries in the front.

The bottom line

Kia Sedona is a strong offering in its segment, although it misses the lack of a few elements to make it a truly irresistible offering. The fact that it does not carry a forward collision alert leaves it a bit behind when it comes to a vehicle for the family.

There’s also the fact that the moment it arrives, it makes it look not so new next to a Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Pacifica. Recommendable? Of course, it is, but with the opportunity to improve in a couple of aspects to make it irresistible in front of its target market.
