In this article, we will answer the following question: Can a Juke tow a caravan? We will discuss the Nissan Juke’s engine and general problems.
Can a Juke tow a caravan?
With a towing capacity of a maximum of 1250 kgs, the Nissan Juke can tow a small to a medium-sized caravan, however, it is not a very practical car. The Nissan Juke is also not a reliable car but it is definitely a car that attracts one’s attention. It’s the kind of car where there’s no middle ground: Either you like it or you don’t like it. That’s it.
Nissan Juke is the most interesting design experiment made by a car manufacturer on a production car in the last ten years. Some say it’s a joke, others that it looks like a frog, but in the end, Juke is the first small class crossover and it drives flawlessly. And when it comes to its towing capacity, the Juke is just an alright option that may even surprise you.

Nissan Juke engines
- 116-horsepower 1.2 DIG-T – Also known as the 1.2 TCe from Renault, this engine was withdrawn in 2019 following a scandal in which mechanics complained about its extreme reliability and the fact that they have nothing left. work, they have nothing to fix.
It only suffers from minor problems, such as severe oil loss or the fact that many such engines did not cover 60,000 km until they were destroyed.
- 1.6 petrol 94 and 117 horsepower – Engine shared with Nissan Qashqai, this engine is relatively simple and reliable. It has problems starting at -15 degrees Celsius or less and you have to be careful how the spark plugs are changed. If they are tightened too much, they will also collect engine damage from your wallet. But overall it’s an honest engine.
- 1.6 DIG-T 190 and 240 horsepower – A sports engine that will quickly leave you breathless, licensed and money. Problems with oil leaks and with the double-mass clutch and flywheel that breathe every 200 meters. That’s if the pistons don’t break in the meantime.
- ∫- Renault-Nissan-Mercedes village bike, this engine was put on both the first generation of Logan and the current generation of CLA. Occasional problems with the particle filter and the turbine, but if you drive it mostly in the extra-urban area, it should be ok.
Pay close attention to models up to 2011 that are sensitive to dubious quality diesel and can be contaminated with span.
Nissan Juke: General Problems
The CVT automatic transmission has a lifespan of 40,000 km. The new CVT box, called XTRONIC, doesn’t do much better either. If you don’t want to finance your mechanic’s mortgage, go for a manual gearbox. After all, what a man does with his hand is called manual labour.
Renault sent the battery and electronics system to the Nissan factory, and the engineers there were probably Romanians because they thought they knew better. They have changed the electronic system that regulates the charging cycles of the battery, and the battery can no longer be charged correctly.
Thus, you will never have all the electronic systems working at the same time, if you do not go on another brand of battery or on a larger battery.
The infotainment system tends to break down a few months after the warranty expires. Radio, navigation and the rest of the staff go on strike and take the whole system after them. Or you can buy music to maintain the atmosphere on the road if you still run out of Radio or MP3 Player.
For those two people who were thinking of climbing a mountain in a Nissan Juke I, I must tell you that since 2014 the 4 × 4 has been completely abandoned for the Juke. You will be able to climb the edges of the underground parking lots in the mall.
The front brake discs have a short life and where the discs need to be changed, the pads also need to be changed.
Ask random people about the Nissan Juke and you will always get dubious answers. With Juke it’s simple when you want to know the preferences of others: either yes or no. Basically, you don’t have much room to turn around and the personality of the car (read the design) gave it a “love it or hate it” status from the start.
Even if Juke looks like an underwater SUV, the interior space is far from what a full-fledged SUV offers, which you should consider if you plan to go on a long journey with a trailer or caravan in the back.
Don’t expect a lot of storage space but the existing ones are cleverly designed and make the most of the space inside. The trunk offers a volume of 354 litres enough for two people on a vacation, say, a maximum of one week.
It matters a lot what you want from a car before you think about whether the Nissan Juke is worth it or not. If the family is not in your plans for the near future and you want a car with which to solve your affairs in the city, you can go on short weekend getaways and you definitely want to stand out in traffic but at the same time you want a minimum of dynamism and fuel economy, Juke may be the answer for you.
