Thor RVs recalls
Below we will discuss four Thor RV recalls and what measures were taken.
- Thor Motor Coach (TMC) recalls the Four Winds Hurricane and Windsport model RVs from the years 2009 to 2011, Four Winds Mandalay 2009 and 2010, Four Winds Magellan 2010 and Four Winds Serrano from the years 2010 and 2011, manufactured between May 2, 2009, and September 1, 2010.
The affected vehicles are wired to be powered by a generator and are equipped with an Iota SA-50R transfer switch which may fail when exposed to high electrical loads and operated at high ambient temperatures.
When the transfer switch fails to function properly, it can overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
TMC will advise owners and dealers to replace the Iota SA-50R transfer switch at no charge with a transfer switch from another manufacturer. The recall began on November 23, 2015. Owners can contact Thor Customer Service for more information.
- Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling the certain year 2016 Challenger, Hurricane and Windsport models manufactured between July 31, 2015, and September 9, 2015.
In affected vehicles, the parking brake actuator may be out of calibration causing the parking brake system not to properly hold the vehicle, even with the parking brake pedal fully depressed. In addition, the parking brake may not fully disengage even when the parking brake pedal is released.
If the parking brake is not fully engaged, the vehicle may roll away unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or an accident. A parking brake that gets stuck can cause a wheel end fire.
TMC will notify owners and dealers that will be required to replace the parking brake pedal assembly at no charge.
- Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2016 Ace, Challenger, Hurricane, Miramar, Outlaw and Windsport models manufactured between July 14, 2015, and October 16, 2015.
The drivetrain of affected vehicles built on Ford chassis may be relocated out of the “PARK” position without applying the brakes, due to improper shift cable bracket and improper shift cable adjustment.
If the vehicle can be moved in reverse without the brakes having to be applied, the vehicle may unintentionally move, increasing the risk of an accident.
Ford will notify owners of these vehicles on behalf of Thor and Ford Dealers will replace the shift control bracket free of charge and adjust the shift cable.
- Thor Motor Coach (Thor) recalls 12,656 Thor Challenger, Thor Citation, Thor Hurricane, Thor Tuscany, Thor Windsport models from the years 2011 to 2016, the Thor Astoria models, Thor Avanti, Thor Chateau from the years 2011 and 2012, the Thor Daybreak models from the years 2011 to 2014, Thor Outlaw, Thor Siesta from 2011 to 2015, Thor Miramar from 2014 to 2018.
The vehicles concerned are fitted with double or triple electric steps, Coachstep model, manufactured by Lippert Components. These steps use a particular bolt to secure the gear assembly to the steps. This bolt could fracture allowing the assembly to disengage from the steps. Consequently, the steps may not stay in the expected position and may be unstable.
It causes unstable entry steps to increase the risk of injury.
Thor will notify owners and dealers will install a retaining bracket free of charge to strengthen the operating mechanism and replace all affected bolts.
